World Series of Poker (WSOP), the poker festival

Poker may be a game of cards, may involve winning or losing money but in its true philosophy is nothing more than an attempt to make money. If stock exchange brokers only buy and sell the stocks and do nothing practically in the process of production and Forex trade is only exchanging currency, poker has become another trade, doing nothing except dealing cards, making bids. The players think they are doing a wonderful job and for the successful ones it is actually true. Let there be superb casinos, dazzling lights, fantastic decoration and elegant mansions for this battlefield of money war. Let there be ceremonies, yes, it is good to have some ceremonies and rites – the WSOP is one of them.

The World Series of Poker is a series of poker tournaments held annually in Las Vegas, started in 1970 and now held every year in June and July. In the first such series in 1970, only 7 of the best players were invited and every year the number of participants kept increasing and has now reached thousands in number. Since 1972, the Main Event of the WSOP has been the $10,000 buy-in no-limit Texas Hold’Em (NLHE) tournament. Imagine the level of the festival and importance given to “Poker”.

Now there are WSOP with different rules and everyone has a choice for tournaments he wishes to participate into and play. Now you can play with standard house rules of the game or settle your own to play; however ranking of the hands value remains the same but some variations can be agreed upon among the players.

Las Vegas, well known for its casinos, has remained a famous home for hosting the big events of poker and all its variants. The World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) is the first expansion effort of World Series of Poker tournaments outside the United States. After two years in Cannes WSOPE 2013 will be held in Paris during 11th-24th October. World Series of Poker for Asia Pacific (WSOP APAC) will be held in the month of April at Crown Melbourne with 5 events awarding gold bracelets. Tournaments will be played during 4th April 2013 to 15th April 2013.

The organizers have planned to make it a colorful event mixing all types of pleasures with the game. Unlimited and unstoppable cash games will take place during these events. The same spirit of “sportsmanship” is developing among the Parisians to support some players and to oppose others, giving feeling of ‘home ground’ to their own players.
